It looks like Apple will finally terminate iTunes, with the tech giant reportedly migrating the platform’s services to a series of standalone apps.
As Bloomberg reports, it's expected the announcement will be made at Apple’s developer conference, WWDC 2019, next week, which will see CEO Tim Cook among others detail updates to Apple’s operating systems, new approach to apps and more.
Last month, it was reported by 9to5Mac that Apple would introduce a standalone Music app on macOS that would include similar features to iTunes, but would be focused just on music.
Gizmodo is also reporting developer Steve Troughton-Smith tweeted that he was “fairly confident based on evidence I don’t wish to make public at this point that Apple is planning new (likely UIKit) Music, Podcasts, perhaps even Books, apps for macOS, to join the new TV app,” adding that this also meant “the much-discussed and long-awaited break up of iTunes.”
iTunes launched 18 years ago, with speculation growing in recent months about its demise.
