"There's been something in the water recently in Brisbane..."

The four finalists of the prestigious Grant McLennan Fellowship have today been announced as Jack Bratt, Hariette Pilbeam (Hatchie), Georgia Potter (Moreton) and Leanne Tennant

The artists are now one step closer to receiving a $25,000 fellowship to travel to New York, London or Berlin.

Established in 2007 in honour of the legendary Go-Betweens founder, the fellowship is designed to immerse recipients in one of the cities, acting as a source of inspiration and creativity.

Grant McLennan's sister Sally is an integral part of the judging process and speaking about the Fellowship said, "The Grant McLennan Memorial Fellowship, or ‘Grant’s Grant’ as I refer to it, continues to honour my brother for his generosity of spirit towards fellow songwriting musicians.

"The McLennans are very proud to be involved with the Fellowship and sincerely appreciate Arts Queensland’s financial contribution and QMusic’s administration of the grant.

“This is a great way to champion Queensland singer-songwriters, giving the beneficiary of the Fellowship the opportunity to immerse themselves in the culture and ambience of their chosen city.”

The 2018 Fellowship was awarded to Brisbane electronic artist Danny Harley aka The Kite String Tangle.

"This is actually my second time nominated so I know what it is like to get this far but to actually take it away this time is unreal," he told The Music at last year's ceremony.

"Being up against such a high calibre of artists, it's a huge honour. Also getting to delve deep into Grant McLennan's work. You gain a new respect for his songwriting which is really unique and pretty special."

Harley will assist Sally McLennan in this year's judging process alongside Powderfinger's Ian Haug, The Go-Betweens' Adele Pickvance and Screamfeeder's Kellie Lloyd.

“The applications again to the Fellowship this year have been top class. It shows a constant expansion of genres and quality," Pickvance shared.

"There's been something in the water recently in Brisbane because the pool of talent in the applications for the Fellowship this year is stellar," Haug added.

The 2019 winner will be announced at a ceremony on 11 December.
