Sydney-based artist and Big White member Elmo Aoyama has inked a deal with Dinosaur City Records ahead of the release of her debut solo EP, Spells.

The synth player, bassist and vocalist has also dropped the EP’s lead single, Summertime, which features on newly release compilation Stay Inside: Songs From The Great Indoors.

Dinosaur City Records’ Cody Munroe Moore and Jordanne Chant first saw Aoyama perform songs from Spells at a bar in Japan a couple of years ago.

“We'd known Elmo for many years before that, but it was the opening up of a new performance, songs we'd never heard before that got us so excited about her solo work,” Moore and Chant told The Music.

“We can't wait to now share this music and feeling with Australia and the world."

On Spells, Aoyama noted: “Spells is a collection of songs written during transit through automatic writing. Each song represents a time already passed which will never be revisited again.

“The songs include both significant and insignificant events, fleeting thoughts and feelings which deal with themes of life, death, loss and political comment.”
