"The five-year agreement that we have reached with the State Government is incredibly important for the ongoing success of the festival."

Having just wrapped up another successful year, Dark Mofo have confirmed that they will be receiving over $10.5 million in funding over the next five years, thanks to the Tasmanian Government and Events Tasmania.

The funding will aid Dark Mofo in bringing more interstate and overseas visitors to the winter arts and music festival, amp up media exposure of the event and of the state and invest at least $250,000 into programming and support of other Tasmanian arts-based organisations.

Dark Mofo's creative director Leigh Carmichael said of the injection of money, "The five-year agreement that we have reached with the State Government is incredibly important for the ongoing success of the festival. The deal will give us the ability to expand and improve the festival, commission new works, employ and train more Tasmanians, reach further into the regions, and achieve our ambitious tourism targets.

"We also hope to increase the presence of the ‘Paint the Town Red’ campaign and see more of Southern Tasmania bathed with that fiery red glow. Having the Hobart and Launceston airports on board this year really added to the carnival atmosphere, but the highlight was the Derwent Valley community, who got into the spirit and outshone Hobart in that regard."

The festival, known for its eclectic celebration of winter, the dark and often the macabre or dreary, will be returning bigger and better next year from June 8 to June 21.

This year's festival featured a healthy heavy metal contingent from bands like Cult Of Fire and Tribulation, as well as dark electronic music from acts like ZHU.
