Next weekend!
Iconic Melbourne music house Bakehouse Studios is staring down the barrel of the big 2-5, the magnitude of which in such tumultuous times cannot be overstated — this is a milestone, and there's reason to party.
To that end, Bakehouse and Leaps & Bounds Festival are teaming up to throw a celebratory shindig, with stalwart Aussie rock outfit and longtime Bakehouse friends The Drones leading a charge of otherwise mystery special guests to commemorate the venue's 25th birthday next weekend. Having far outgrown its humble rehearsal-studio roots, Bakehouse has been a crucial part of the formation of S.L.A.M as well as an indelible fixture of the city's musical culture.
"Bakehouse has always been our fave place to jam," frontman Gareth Liddiard said in a statement. "We started going there about 2002 with The Drones and Dan Kelly's band 'cause we lived down the road and it was dog friendly. It’s kinda where we met all of our friends including [owners] Helen [Marcou] and Quincy [McLean], who are two of the most supportive and generous people anyone could hope to meet.
"It isn't really surprising it’s been around for 25 years as it’s a bit of an institution nowadays. It’s like a hub or a second home for a big section of the Melbourne music scene. A hub with shitloads of plants in it. Happy 25th, Bakehouse!"
