Is it a case of third time lucky for the reformed Southern rap group?
Before Cee Lo Green was a worldwide chart-topping sensation, he ran with an Atlanta crew by the name of Goodie Mob, who enjoyed quite a bit of success in the eight or so years they were together. The group, which also features Khujo, T-Mo, and Big Gipp, cut four records through the '90s, before Cee-Lo cracked the shits and left the group in 1999 to pursue a solo career.
The group made one record without him, 2004's not-particularly well-received One Monkey Don't Stop No Show, but now the full complement have reformed and will release a new album, Age Against The Machine, next month.
But is it going to be any good? The first two tracks they offered us after reforming - Is That You, God and Fight To Win - weren't particularly special, but the album's first single, a ridiculously hard-hitting track called Special Education which features the one and only Janelle Monae on vocals is inspiring. Cee Lo is a judge on The Voice in the US; can you imagine any of our judges pumping out something like this?
Seeing as the last thing we heard from Cee Lo was a weird as hell Christmas album (2012's Cee Lo's Magic Moment) this is a nice reminder that he's still got plenty to give. As for the rest of the crew, they sound more devastating than ever.
Cee Lo is also set to release a new solo album – Girl Power – later this year and has promised that he and Danger Mouse have new material on the boil from their Gnarls Barkley project.
