Brisbane Hotel Launching New Weekly Live Music Event This March

Get thee to Stones Corner!

It's a common conception that the majority of Brisbane's live music offerings happen within Fortitude Valley and West End, but — as the city's suburban spots thrive and grow — there'll be even more competition outside the inner city in the near future when stalwart watering hole the Stones Corner Hotel throws its hat into the gigging ring next month.

Joining the likes of Eaton's Hill, Alexandria Hills and Sandstone Point hotels (among others) as a bastion of suburban soirees, Stones Corner Hotel will launch a weekly live music night coming to the premises each Friday from 4 March, when the inaugural event gets under way to the sounds of local garage/country-rock luminaries Mexico City — fresh from a six-year hiatus — who'll be throwing a pre-album launch party of sorts ahead of their new LP When The Day Goes Dark, out 9 March on Plus One Records.

Also headed to the hotel on the 4th will be C A T A L I N A (ED: possibly Catalina; not sure if that's just a style choice, so figured better safe than sorry), who will be armed with a slew of new songs for us all to enjoy, and local punk/rock/roots collective Woodshed, not to be confused with the Washington heavy-rock/psych outfit of the same name.

The new live music nights have been created in collaboration with the team at emergent Stones Corner record store Sonic Sherpa (the co-proprietor of which used to serve as The Music's Brisbane editor, so you know he has taste), with the direct impetus being to provide local bands with a consistent platform from which to share their wares and give punters a one-stop source of yet-to-break Brisbane secrets.

"Local live music fans no longer need to seek out various one-off destinations to see Brisbane's original talent perform; all they need to do is attend our Friday live music evenings and we bring the latest and most original in Brisbane's music scene directly to you!" venue manager Julian D'Souza said in a statement.

"There are limited live music venues on the south side of Brisbane, and with the expertise of Simon Homer and Steve Bell from Sonic Sherpa, the Stones Corner Hotel looks forward to supporting bands with original live music."

The hotel is already looking to future events, with talented crowd-pleaser Darlow already on the cards for the second Friday of gigs.

Before we get there, though, the first weekly Stones Corner Hotel live music night will be held from 8pm on Friday 4 March. Tickets are only $10 at the door, so quit making excuses and get out to throw some love towards our hard-working local musos. You don't even have to go to the Valley to do so.
