Australian guitarist Jona Weinhofen has been replaced in UK-based metalcore Bring Me The Horizon just months before the release of their next album, Sempiternal, and tour for the upcoming Soundwave festival.

News spread across social media and genres websites this morning that Weinhofen was no longer with the band, with many outlets (including theMusic) pointing to a supposed blog post by the guitarist that had since been deleted.

This afternoon Weinhofen confirmed to theMusic.com.au that he was no longer in the band, but explained that the quotes were from an April Fool's joke from a “very old Tumblr post”.

He added the announcement of his departure was released prematurely by the band as the two parties are still working out legalities, and as such he said, "I can not discuss the reasons or who's decision it was just yet."

Weinhofen, who is a founding and current member of local hardcore act I Killed The Prom Queen, joined the UK outfit in 2009 after a stint with US band Bleeding Through.

He added that he is committed to writing and recording a new album with Prom Queen.

Bring Me The Horizon have themselves not yet commented on the split but have indicated that ex-Worship member Jordan Fish will replace the guitarist's role.

Horizon's next album is due in April through Sony, and is their first since leaving punk label Epitaph.
