Aus Acts Make Strong Debuts On Albums Chart But No Match For Olivia Rodrigo

It’s been another big week for local talent on the ARIA charts, with a slew of Aussie artists making strong debuts.

On the Albums chart, Shannon Noll’s Raw debuts #3, while The VeronicasGodzilla places at #7.

One of two new albums from The Veronicas, Godzilla was a favourite to take on Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour, but the US artist holds onto #1.

Godzilla includes The Veronicas single The Life Of The Party, featuring Allday, and the Adelaide electro-indie hitmaker also debuts on the Albums chart this week, landing at 13 with Drinking With My Smoking Friends.

Ed Kuepper’s Singles '86-'96 compilation debuts at #43, while Delta Goodrem’s Bridge Over Troubled Dreams (#8) and Amy Shark’s Cry Forever (#14) remain in the Top 20.

Goodrem also dominates the Vinyl Albums chart this week, with her latest offering debuting at #1, closely followed by The AvalanchesSince I Left You and Kuepper’s Singles ‘86-’96 (also debuting on the chart).

The third season of the Rewind with Steve Bell podcast kicked off this week, celebrating the 20th anniversary of Since I Left You.

Founding members Robbie Chater and Tony Di Blasi join a cast of characters who were there as the iconic album Since I Left You was created in the late ‘90s. 

The three-episode oral history explores how the Melbourne band’s lo-fi noisepunk roots and op shop crate-digging obsession led to an album that made waves around the globe.

It’s been a huge few weeks on the ARIA charts for local acts, Melbourne's The Simpsons-themed doom rock group Dr Colossus debuting at #16 with their new album last week following Delta Goodrem, You Am I and more also having an impact in late May.
