Vic Government Announces Final Details Of $22.2m Plan To Boost Music Industry

Melbourne’s booming music scene is set to receive another major boost in the coming months, with the State Government today unveiling the final stage of the $22.2 million Music Works package.

Minister for Creative Industries, Martin Foley, today announced that Music Victoria would be in charged of the delivery and management of the Victorian Music Development Office.

“This is all about taking Victorian music to the next level – by backing our industry’s best and brightest and inspiring the artists of tomorrow,” Foley said.

“The Music Market will be a hub of creativity, allowing musicians to share ideas and collaborate on projects, get training and do business.”

The Victorian Music Development Office will be tasked with implementing a new campaign that supports diversity and inclusion in contemporary music programming, kickstarting an industry research program and more.

“Music Victoria would like to acknowledge and thank the Andrews Government for its significant investment in the music industry via the Music Works Program,” Music Victoria chair Tim Northeast said.

“The Melbourne Live Music Census 2017 results released last week show that the local industry is flourishing as a result of this investment and continues to be a major driver of employment in the arts and hospitality sectors.

“Music Victoria looks forward to creating further opportunities for the industry through the Victorian Music Development Office and the Collingwood Arts Precinct.”
