The Cuban composer and pianist will be heading to Sydney and Melbourne in March.

Cuban composer and jazz pianist Alfredo Rodriguez will be heading to Australia this March, performing here for the first time.

The Grammy-nominated artist will play a show at Sydney's The Basement (12 Mar) and three consecutive shows at Melbourne's Bird's Basement (14, 15 &16 Mar).

The piano virtuoso was discovered by Quincy Jones (who later co-produced his second album, The Invasion Parade), at the 2006 Montreux Jazz Festival. Rodriguez, influenced equally by composers Bach and Stravinsky and his Cuban and jazz roots released his third album Tocororo last year. On the album, his life is represented by the national bird of Cuba, a bird that dies of sadness if caged, symbolising a desire and need for freedom.

At only 28-years old, Alfredo Rodriguez already possesses remarkable skills that are sure to impress Australian audiences.
