Newcastle Band On Board Flight That Injured 37 Passengers

37 passengers on a Sydney-bound flight from Vancouver have suffered injuries after the Air Canada flight encountered turbulence at 36,000 feet.

As ABC reports, the Boeing 777-200, carrying 269 passengers and 15 crew, was diverted to Honolulu, with nine people suffering serious injuries.

Newcastle country band Hurricane Fall were on the flight, sharing on Facebook that their vocalist Pepper Deroy "copped some nerve damage to his forearm/elbow".

"Just letting you all know that we are ok after the incident on our flight home," the post read. 

"We are all super grateful to the Air Canada staff for their professionalism and swift response. This was an eye-opening, incredibly frightening experience, but we’re grateful we are all safe and sound."

A spokeswoman for Air Canada told ABC all 37 people were assessed, treated and released from local hospitals following the incident.
