"Growing up and relying on the internet for most of my music. I discovered lots of different styles and sounds that captivated me, people from all over the world creating their own genres and showing me the possibilities of self-made music.”
Dance music and Australian underground community stalwart Joshua Amour has released his debut single and visualiser Don't Let Go, alongside the announcement of his signing to Astral People Recordings.
Previously appearing on stage as the touring DJ for childhood friend Genesis Owusu, as well opening for the likes of KETTAMA and DJing alongside Dameeeela, Amour has had a strong understanding of how to get bodies moving in a clinical and well imagined way. He now turns to the releasing of original music which act as a collation of the influences that he wears boldly on his sleeve with hope that he can impact people the same way that his favourite artists have inspired him.
As he explains, "growing up and relying on the internet for most of my music. I discovered lots of different styles and sounds that captivated me, people from all over the world creating their own genres and showing me the possibilities of self-made music.”
His debut effort, is an equal parts emotive, glitchy and early 2010's post-dubstep inspired number, titled Don't Let Go. It opens with a voice note that suggests the power of creativity in healing, stating "You know that whole idea of writing your thoughts down to get them off your chest, it's similar with music." After the intro it explodes with stellar energy, coming to life with a jittery 2-step inflected beat and synthetic horns. The track toes the line between warm and organic elements with glitchy percussion and an electronically modified vocal sample, evoking a feeling of warm, romanticism.
“‘Don’t Let Go’ has been a track I’ve been sitting on for months and months, originally part of another project but it moved enough people to keep its place in this new one,
“It’s somewhat of a throw back to the Mount Kimbie And Four Tet tracks that I still love”.
