After rocking crowds in Europe, Aussie punk musician Victor Huml is preparing to rock the vote in the upcoming Queensland state election.

The Greens candidate, best known as the bassist for Brisbane '90s outfit Mouthguard, just wrapped a 16-date tour with his band Shandy and has since arrived back in Australia to re-commence his campaign to run for the seat of Greenslopes ahead of the election on 25 November.

Huml's latest group has proved to be a hit with the international market, having embarked on three European tours, while also releasing four records in Germany.

"Music has become a somewhat unintentionally successful hobby" Huml said.

The musician-turned-politician's nomination for the Greens has been backed by a string of fellow punk artists and his own heroes, including Rancid's Lars Fredericksen, UK Sub's Charlie Harper and The Hard-Ons' Ray Ahn.

Huml is looking to shake things up ahead of the Queensland election, saying both major parties have become stale.

"I am very excited at the prospect of standing in this electorate," Huml said.

"I want better outcomes for Greenslopes, starting with Renters’ Rights and giving the community a greater say in property development decisions.

"The people of Greenslopes deserve better than the status quo."
