Sony Music Publishing has acquired the entire existing catalogue of Kevin Parker, as well as extended his global deal for future works.

In addition to his work as the frontman and mastermind behind Tame Impala, in which he wrote, produced, mixed, sang, and performed each song on the albums Innerspeaker, Lonerism, Currents, and The Slow Rush, Parker has become an in-demand producer and writer for other artists.

He recently contributed to Dua Lipa’s third album, Radical Optimism, which took over the charts in the UK and US. As well as working with Lipa, Parker is known for collaborations with Rihanna, Mike Ronson, The Weeknd, SZA, Gorillaz, Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga, The Wiggles, Daft Punk, and more.

In a statement, Parker remarked that “the idea of passing on ownership” of his songs wasn’t one that he took on lightly, calling his songs the “fruit of my blood, sweat and creativity” as a recording artist and songwriter throughout the years.

He continued, “I have a lot of love and trust for the Sony publishing family and have only had great experiences with Damian Trotter and the rest of the gang worldwide. I don’t think my songs could be in any safer hands than Sony’s, and I’m excited for the future and happy I can keep working with them on whatever the future brings.”

Damian Trotter, the Managing Director of Sony Music Publishing in Australia, added that Parker is a “singular talent” who’s “enthralled” fans, fellow artists and the wider music industry since making his mark in Tame Impala.

“Having worked with Kevin since before the release of the first Tame Impala album, it has been thrilling to witness his rise to success worldwide, which is so well deserved,” Trotter said. “We are proud and humbled to be taking custodianship of this iconic catalogue of songs and to be continuing our relationship with Kevin in this exciting phase of his music-making career.”

Jon Platt, the Chairman and CEO at Sony Music Publishing, said he’s always admired Parker and believes he is “one of the most versatile songwriters of our time”. His statement continued, “Kevin has built a catalogue of songs with incredible range and enduring power, and he has always stayed true to his vision. It is a privilege to represent his music, and we are committed to broadening his legacy of success.”

Earlier this year, Parker teamed up with French electronic music duo Justice on their comeback track, One Night/All Night.

On working with Tame Impala, Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay commented in a press release, “We wanted this track to sound as if a dark/techno iteration of Justice had found a sample of a disco iteration of Kevin Parker. Kevin has a sense of melody that’s fascinating in the sense that he manages to write melodies that feel both simple and natural but very peculiar at the same time.”
