THE BAMBOOS'25 Years’
‘The Bamboos 25 Years’ will be a unique performance to celebrate the history of the internationally cherished Melbourne ten-piece Funk & Soul outfit. Launching the deluxe compilation album‘The Bamboos Best’ bandleader / guitarist Lance Ferguson will be bringing their biggest show to Melbourne yet.
Featuring powerhouse lead singer Kylie Auldist along with the full 10-piece line up, they’ll be performing favourites from across their twelve studio albums.
From their raw Deep Funk origins through their own genre defying musical path, they have reinvigorated a classic sound whilst seamlessly incorporating contemporary influences to create something altogether brand new. Appealing to genre purists as well as casual music fans, the band have focused on what’s important: songwriting, groove and powerful vocals.
Special guest is Kurt Rainbow, who’s late ‘70s Jazz Fusion and Funk sounds deliver a high-energy, retro-futuristic wonderland. Also helping celebrate a huge night of Melbourne Soul will be DJs Chris Gill (presenter of ‘Get Down’ on 3RRR) and Miss Goldie (‘Boss Action’ on 3PBS)
The celebrations will continue upstairs after the show with a free afterparty with DJs Kano and The Bamboos own Lance Ferguson!
“When The Bamboos launched onto the scene, I remember what a breath of fresh air they were. What some may have viewed as a musical curiosity has turned into a quarter of a century long career.” RICHARD KINGSMILL (TRIPLE J)
“They have kept flying the flag for Funk and Soul for their 25 years as without them out this scene would be so much poorer.” CRAIG CHARLES (BBC 6MUSIC)
"The first time I heard The Bamboos it was particularly inspiring to see and hear folks going for this rough and tough sound around the globe. Inspiring enough that I decided I wanted to try my hand at this fun and foolishness!" TERRY COLE (COLEMINE RECORDS)
“The quality control has never dipped over the course of their quarter century of activity and it seems a safe bet to say it never will.” GREG CAZ NYC (WAX POETICS)
“The Bamboos are bad mother#%@er’s!” SYL JOHNSON (CHICAGO R&B/SOUL LEGEND)
