What?
We’re thrilled to welcome Leah Senior, Beefheart & McQuinn and Ruby Milner to the Corner for a special FREE entry show on Sat 28 Jun. Lush folk tunes in a warm bandroom - the perfect winter balm.
Leah SeniorAustralian-based folk diviner Leah Senior silences audiences with vivid lyricism and a voice that soars with a disarmingly honest Sandy Denny-like clarity. Leah effortlessly weaves together spring-time baroque pop playfulness with a fragile blend of bedroom folk. Her fourth album The Music That I Make (2023, Poison City Records) reveals Leah at her most intimate, her songs a cycle of vulnerable meditations on what it means to create. The Music That I Make transports the listener to her sandstone shack in Anglesea, where autumnal British folk meets rain streaked AM radio. Leah’s previous three albums The Passing Scene, Pretty Faces and Summer’s On The Ground were released through Flightless Records. A chance late night encounter with King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard saw Leah Senior joining their independent label Flightless. In 2022 Leah and her band joined King Gizzard on a national tour of USA/Canada, performing at iconic venues including Red Rocks and Berkeley Theatre. Leah Senior’s captivating live performances have seen her supporting international artists including Jessica Pratt, Jeff Tweedy and Bedouine and performing at festivals such as Levitation, Desert Daze, Port Fairy Folk Festival and Golden PlainsBeefheart & McQuinnBeefheart & McQuinn is the new project from UK artist Moby Beefheart aka William Murray (formerly of UK outfit Fur) and Melbourne / Naarm musician Winter McQuinn (Sunfruits, jade imagine). Coming together after a chanced coffee meetup, the musical connection between the two artists is palpable. Sharing a love for the folk and rock sounds of yesteryear without pastiche obsession, Beefheart & McQuinn make contemporary psychedelic folk / soft rock, a rich sonic tapestry of vocal harmony blends and deft musicianship / production. This first offering ‘Hand In Hand’ is a Joni esque song about the effect of a busy working life in a new place coupled with the feeling of isolation and anxiety that the modern world’s political landscape can engender. Engineered by the pair in McQuinns home studio (where they record all their music) mixed by Jesse Williams (Leah Senior, Grace Cummings) mastered by Snowy the song features beautifully deft, syncopated waterfall guitar playing and vocals with tasteful percussion and harmonies drifting in and out of focus. This song is the first of many as the pair put their finishing touches on their debut album, due out in early 2026. This release picked up spins on Australian radio including 3RRR, PBS, 4ZZZ and more and was described as “perfectly emulating the kind of sun-soaked Canyon comedowns that ease the mind into Sunday mornings. The single is just the first taste of an album in the works, promised to land in 2026. From the first inklings this should be high on your radar” Raven Sings The Blues 2025.
Ruby MilnerRuby Milner is a singer-songwriter from Melbourne, with roots in country/folk, later influenced by jazz and indie-rock sounds. Her writing combines classically inspired progressions with careful and honest lyricism, inspired by musicians such as Joni Mitchell, Adrienne Lenker and Rufus Wainwright.
