Cool Sounds...

Cool Sounds is the key project of Australian pop polymath Dainis Lacey, with a live band that sees up to six musicians crowded onstage. Across five albums to date, Cool Sounds’ shapeshifting indie rock has given nods to 80s pop, cheerful funk, and alt-country, all with a lightness of touch that disguises Lacey’s thoughtful, perceptive songwriting. Their new album Like That (Chapter Music) “rips into a slicked n’ slippery, dance-ready aura of disco and funk-flexed pop.” Raven Sings The Blues. Current line up is Dainis Lacey (guitar, vocals), Nick Kearton (guitar), Jack Nichols (guitar), Steve Foulkes (drums), and Ambrin Hasnain. Former band members include Liam Halliwell (sax), Tim Eilenberg (bass), and Lauren Huynh.

Cool Sounds toured Europe in 2023, 2019 and 2015, most recently selling out shows and performing at festivals alongside Gilla Band (IE), and Panda Bear and Sonic Boom (US/UK). At home they have shared stages with Mdou Moctar (NE), Twin Peaks (US), Spiral Stairs (US), plus Australian indie royalty like Good Morning, RVG, Snowy Band and Mod Con. Their 2019 album More to Enjoy and EP Sleepers were nominated for AIR Awards, and previous releases have been featured in Line Of Best Fit (UK), Raven Sings the Blues (US) and elsewhere.“gloriously funky and summery psychedelia-meets-disco affair.” Evening Standard (UK)“Cool Sounds’ usual jangle-pop sparkle has been supercharged by a disco-glam stomp, making for their most immediate record yet.” Beat MagEggy...A band whose output is defined by a keen sense for change and continuum, EGGY are an avant-pop-rock band who keep their feet firmly planted in the DIY. Taking notes from John Cale, Stereolab, and The BBC Radiophonic Workshop, the EGGY sound and live show is an evolving shift of creative energy that bends to shape its environment. Enveloping halls and ballrooms with cello and overdriven violin, or in clubs and bandrooms with saxophone and blown out riffs. The thread between static intensity and agile restraint taut from start to finish. They’ve shared stages at home and abroad with Kurt Vile, Tropical Fuck Storm, The Beths, Shanon & The Clams and MJ Lenderman and their sophomore album ‘With Gusto’ was listed in Henry Rollins top 11 albums of the year. EGGY are set for a big year in 2025 as they release their cinematic third album, From Time To Time through Flightless Records on March 21st and tour to the UK, Europe and East Coast of Australia bringing their signature sound to festivals, galleries and alternative spaces. EGGY are: Charlie Wolstenholme, Dom Moore, Lucy Packham, Sam Lyons, and Zoe Monk.Way Dynamic...Spearheaded by songwriter Dylan Young, ‘Massive Shoe’ continues Young’s foray into revivalist pop coloured by his own creative fingerprint.? In the past year, Way Dynamic have released their sophomore LP ‘Duck’ to excellent reviews, toured with Waxahatchee and MJ Lenderman & The Wind, and are now already returning with another full length release ‘Massive Shoe’, resuming Young’s exploration into minimalist folk-pop, baroque pop and art rock. Yellow Green Red in their album review for ‘Duck’ aptly describe Way Dynamic as; “Brian Wilson’s lust for pop perfection brought back to earth by Randy Newman’s silliness and Christopher Cross’s knack for an original melody that already feels familiar”. Adding a touch of Neil Young balladry, Massive Shoe continues this formula, as they lyrically dive into topics such as navigating relationships, struggling to communicate, mistakes and humanity, while maintaining a sense of ambiguity that washes over you rather than slaps you in the face. ?The album never falls into songwriting tropes of that era, instead Young manages to bob and weave in the face of any typical motif, keeping the album engaging and lighthearted, and maintaining a sense of adventure in his music.Despite Way Dynamic’s brilliant past releases, and the “massive shoe” left to fill after each album, Young consistently manages to outdo himself as he patiently builds a distinctive and impressive discography.
