Chaichester - aka Pat Truscott grew up fast in a military family, moving from city to city throughout most of his early life. It was while living near an air force base in Malaysia, that he first picked up a guitar and started writing songs. Having grown up “on the run” as he puts it, spending a year or two in a city before being posted to another with his family; finding a sense of belonging was tricky as a young person. Though music soon became solid ground, a place to tell stories, a safe space to find meaning, a true home.
Learning the ropes to songwriting came from listening to his parents and grandparents cd collections, from James Taylor and Je? Buckley to Johnny Cash and Bee-Gees.
Eventually settling in the “steel city” of Newcastle, Australia as a teenager - “Chaichester” (based on peaceful memories made near the Chichester dam in the Hunter Valley) set its roots amongst the drones of the port city. Releasing a first single in late 2022, and a self titled, self produced, and self mixed 5 track EP the following year. 2024 saw a tirade of singles as the music was slowly refined.
With a fast growing fanbase and over 1 million streams online, Chaichester has made a home amongst Newcastle’s many pubs, theatres, and festivals with a dynamic live show with his 5 piece band. 2025 saw the debut of Chaichester at the Tamworth Country Music Festival, making an instant impression on the local audiences in the country music capital.
