Hailing from New Zealand, but now based in Melbourne, jazz keyboardist Akash Dutta presents his latest collaboration with local Naarm musicians: 'The Goodfellas'.
Paying tribute to both the great jazz organists and iconic mafia films of the 20th century, This group has a sound that swings hard and grooves even harder. With the soulfulness of the saxophone to the raw power of the legendary Hammond organ, The Goodfellas will take you on a musical journey from postwar Italy, to the mean streets of 1980s New York. Alongside soulful renditions of jazz standards from Joey Defrancesco and Jimmy Smith, come along for swinging reinterpretations of gospel spirituals, blues, and Italian classics.
This is not one to miss, whether you are a jazz aficionado or cinephile come along for a taste of "La dolce vita" right here in Melbourne.
