The Brisbane disco deviant drops his debut studio release tomorrow, but we’ve got the music video for you today.

Bringing disco funk back to Brisbane, Tommy Sexton is set to drop his debut studio release START AGAIN tomorrow (November 8). But, in an exclusive from The Music, we can reveal the single and corresponding music video for you today.
Drawing inspiration from icons of the genre like D’angelo, Herbie Hancock, Earth Wind and Fire, and Stevie Wonder, Sexton has created a bright, colourful, dancefloor-filler of a disco track. According to the artist himself, there’s a certain “dance-your-troubles-away feel” to it.
“It started as a spark of inspiration while I was washing the dishes. It was a process of uncovering what was inside my head, forming words to a melody that I found myself humming and trying to decipher and build on their meaning. To me it’s about renewal, finding inspiration - the light at the end of the tunnel,” Sexton said in a press release.
Made as a Somewhere Nowhere production (co-directed by Finn Ashton and OJ Newcomb), START AGAIN’s video invites viewers into a sultry and dark disco, full of flamboyant characters - in 70’s get-up, obviously - dancing the night away. The storyline itself plays into the lyrics of the song, which references music bringing someone back from the brink. In the sequin-filled vision, a partygoer suffers from a heart attack, and is only revived through a headphone defibrillator - zapping to the beat of the music, of course. You can find the full video below.
To celebrate tomorrow’s release of START AGAIN, and its corresponding B-side, LA LA LA!, Sexton and his band, known as The Suggestions, will be heading on tour, hitting up cities along the East Coast in November/December.
“We can’t wait to bring the band on the road for the first time,” Sexton said. “Each of us has been on the East Coast circuit many times over the years and Melbourne is like (or is!) a second home for us, but as Tommy Sexton and the Suggestions, this will be our first venture south of the border.”
