We've been excited about the debut album from Sydney outfit The Tambourine Girls for some time now — since the release of its first single Police, in fact — and, although a release date is yet to be confirmed, it feels more imminent than ever as the band reveal yet another taste from the full-length, in the wake of recent follow-up The Tambourine Girl.
Before they hit the stage at Newtown Social Club early next month, the band have gifted The Music the premiere airing of an intimate, stripped-back rendition of new track Cupo. The clip slugs it as an 'acoustic' version, but it's as much acoustic as it is electric, so it feels safer to just call it 'minimal'. Sure is a delight on the ears, though.
The band have been working towards the release of their debut LP for much of the past two years, since they first emerged back in 2014 with debut EP The End Of Time. They've since shared stages with the likes of Dustin Tebbutt, The Preatures, Megan Washington, Tigertown, Holy Holy, Davey Lane and others. As the video above — and acoustic EP Sides — shows, though, they're not simply reliant on a pile of pedals and effects to make engaging and evocative tunes.
The Tambourine Girls play Newtown Social Club as part of the upcoming King Street Crawl event.
