VIDEO PREMIERE: FuzzPilot - Suppression

Emergent Brisbane-based rockers FuzzPilot sure know how to make a statement of intent, with the band unveiling their super-slick first-ever video to accompany debut single Suppression today, and The Music is stoked to have nabbed premiere honours for the up-and-comers.

Drawing on content created for forthcoming short film Breather (conceived and animated by FuzzPilot frontman Shaun Trainer), the clip juxtaposes shots of the band members thrashing out their tune with some rough-and-ready footage of a bearded survivor-type fighting off rather literal monsters from his makeshift hideout, capitalising on the movie's impressive DIY CGI work and surprisingly polished production values to create an incredibly assured debut visual effort alongside the certified fist-pumper of a track.

"The Suppression clip was almost entirely self-produced," Trainer said in a statement. "As a band (and with a bit of help from our fantastic friend and DP, Wade Higgins), we've got quite a bit of coverage across a lot of creative aspects, which really helped us reinforce Suppression as the most pure distillation of the band."

The new clip is not just an arbitrary chance for Trainer and his bandmates — bassist Cat Andrews and drummer Jeff van Dyck —  to show off their broad array of talents, of course; the choice of material for the clip actually serves as a fitting complement for the song's ruminations on depression — and the mental/emotional monsters it inspires within those afflicted by the black dog. According to a statement from the band, the track "looks into the understanding of the affliction and struggle, and sheds light on finding the strength to overcome one's inner demons".

"Suppression evolved from a very natural place," Trainer said. "Jeff and I create a base from a free-flowing and cathartic process, Cat puts down some killer runs, and then Jeff goes through some fine-tuning and adds the finishing touches.

"From that, I think Suppression is a very sincere essence of the band."

FuzzPilot will launch the single with a show at Brisbane's New Globe Theatre on Friday 12 August alongside Whiskey & SpeedThe Rared and Dr Parallax. See the band's Facebook page for more information.
