More Billy Fox More Billy Fox

With his latest music video, multi-instrumentalist, producer and songwriter Billy Fox was wanting to “juxtapose the coldness of the world many of us experienced last year, whilst still exploring it through movements that expose and reflect the pent up feelings that we’ve all encountered”.

Premiering today via The Music, the clip for Neighbourhood captures “all of the strangeness, loneliness and frustration people felt, despite being surrounded by all the people in their own urban neighbourhood”.

“The occasional passing cars, empty streets with busy buildings, bright, flickering colourful lights and spots of slow bustling metropolitan movement. But there is has been a lack of connection,” filmmaker Alex Campbell told The Music.

“We wanted to explore the various ups and downs and inhibitions that we’d felt through intense movement and expression of emotion. Ultimately, we end up empowered in our isolation, a single character’s journey through a neon-soaked window. A window that shows a breath of life and light among a million for a dormant windows in the neighbourhood. Hope springs eternal.”

The big colourful lights and bold movements throughout were captured by “a barebones budget and crew, and the team did such a phenomenal job given the circumstance”.

Campbell added: “Having a barebones crew meant we could move extremely quickly too, (which is very useful when you are dancing and filming in the middle of the road).”

On the song itself, Fox noted: “There’s been a period recently where a lot of us have gone back to close quarters, spent more time at home and had more of an obvious connection to local neighbourhoods and communities.

“In this space and quiet, it also allowed us to reflect on and think about some pretty big issues and ideas collectively as a society. It feels like an important time so this song is a reflection on that.”
