UnFun artist Grenadiers provide their 'Top 5 albums of 2015'.

UnFun returns in 2015. Taking place in Sydney, the boutique festival again features a host of local artists, with the event stretched across two stages.

Taking a decisively 90’s theme, over the weeks leading up to the festival, Killyourstereo.com will run a series of ‘Top 5′ features with respective bands on the bill. This week, we conclude with Grenadiers as they provide their ‘Top 5 albums of 2015’ list.

Metz- "II"

Don't miss a beat with our FREE daily newsletter

I'd heard their first album and liked it, but I think on their second effort Metz really hit it out of the park. Just a wonderfully done pastiche of early 90's grunge rock influences- the primal rage of Nirvana in "Territorial Pissings" mode, the subversive nastiness of The Jesus Lizard, yet all sounding distinctly modern too. Very cool.

Pale Heads- "Headless"

From the pedigree of the people involved (members of The Nation Blue, Batpiss, The Drones), I had a feeling this would be good and I was not left disappointed. Grimy, lo-fi, aggressive as fuck garage hardcore, full of angst, piss and vinegar. Yet to see them live, so I really hope this band sticks around and isn't just a passing side project.

Battles- "La Di Da Di"

It was a happy coincidence that one day I was thinking "I wonder if Battles are going to do another album", so I looked them up and this beauty dropped a couple of days later. They just get wackier and cooler with each release - it's what I would picture satanic voodoo muppets to have a dance party to. The tracks just build and build and go to new places - it's really exciting, interesting music.

High Tension- "Bully"

Our drummer Jimmy recorded this one and it's a banger. Gruelling, pummelling sludge of the highest order, just really cool heavy music. Fuzz for days. One of the better videos for the year for the title track, too.

Clowns- "Bad Blood"

We've had the pleasure of playing a few shows with these gents this year and they just kill live. So much raw energy and vibe, and I think the new album captures the intensity of their live performance better than past albums have done. Apart from sounding huge and nasty, the record actually has a whole bunch of great songs too. Clowns manage to do a rare thing in that they can distill memorable hooks into all that aggression.
