The Sound Issue 2016 Studio Focus: Lush Recording Studios

Studio name: Lush Recording Studios

Answered by: Dominic, Studio manager

Studio address: Clontarf Beach, Redcliffe/Brisbane

How long has the studio been running? Since January 2012

What makes your studio different? We are a professionally designed and constructed SSL recording facility, with both 2" tape and Pro Tools HD. Our equipment list and microphone collection are regarded as one of the best available anywhere in Australia.

What's your favourite piece of equipment you have in the studio? That's a hard question. I guess everything: our classic SSL 4048E console, our outboard equipment collection and our classic vintage mics — they're all original and everything sounds absolutely stellar.

Do you find you specialise in specific genres? We are happy to work with any genre, from metal to country, hip hop and R&B to indie to rock. We have several engineers who specialise in different genres.

Who have been your favourite artist(s) to come in? All our artists are favoured by our staff.

What do believe has been the most well produced album of 2016 so far? Hmmm, that's a hard one, Adele's 25, but that was from 2015, wasn't it?

What services does your studio offer? Recording, mixing and production/writing services. We also offer recording to 2" tape with 1/4 inch tape as stereo masters.

Do you prefer analogue or digital? Analogue without question, there's absolutely no doubt it has a much better sonic signature, you can't beat tape compression - period. Tape will open your eyes and ears to how good music can sound. Try it!

Who would be your dream artist to have record/rehearse in the studio? Any artist who is willing to do the hard yards to make great music!
