More Future Haunts More Future Haunts

Brisbane alt-rock quartet Future Haunts are launching new single Make Time in Sydney and at home in a couple of weeks, but The Music's proudly got your first listen right here and now.

Frontman Ben Speight — who recorded Make Time at Plutonium Studios and at home, with mixing by Tim Fitz (Middle Kids) and mastering from Ethan Greaves (Jouk Mistrow) — describes the atmospheric, driving track as being "a song about distance", a theme that translates to its sparse, slowly shifting soundscape throughout.

"It's an observational take on the disconnect that can occur between people when they become preoccupied with various aspects of life," he said in a statement. "It's a gaze into the human condition in managing distractions in a modern world, while we're constantly trying to place our time among the temporary."

The tune comes in the wake of an objectively successful past year, which saw them pull in more than half-a-million streams on Spotify for their song Devon Loch, as well as spins on triple j and the arrival of debut EP Rubicon.

The upwards momentum has steered them towards sharing stages with the likes of British India, Alex Lahey, Mid Ayr, Good Boy and Born Joy Dead, in addition to earning a spot on the second annual Mountain Goat Valley Crawl line-up earlier this year.

Future Haunts will play at Sydney's The Lady Hampshire on Friday 19 May, and Brisbane's Black Bear Lodge on Friday 26 May. They've also got a show at The Foundry this week — on Saturday 6 May — with Mid Ayr and Daggy Man.
