Single Focus: The Burning Roaches

"The life and times of being a broke ass uni student, mooching off your girlfriend and struggling with the dole."

Answered by: Rob Haddow

Single title? Bad Things

What's the song about? The life and times of being a broke ass uni student, mooching off your girlfriend and struggling with the dole.

How long did it take to write/record? Bad Things came together real quick, sort of... I blew my amp on the first recording session, fried it good. But overall it was the quickest to get down, only a handful of sessions.

Is this track from a forthcoming release/existing release? We are currently finishing our debut EP, which is due for release early next year. Bad Things happened to be the first song we finished, so we're putting it out as a single.

What was inspiring you during the song's writing and recording? Hahaha, well a lot of 'bad things' I shouldn't write down, but some good too! Mainly seeing so many of our mates' bands putting out sweet tunes. Melbourne harbours a lot of sick acts.

We'll like this song if we like... Pixies, Nirvana, garage, grunge, riffs and spliffs.

Do you play it differently live? Maybe louder, but overall the focus of our recording has been to keep it honest and raw. So live it's just the more vivid, sweaty version...

When and where is your launch/next gig? The Tote, 4 Dec.
