Name: Adam Boal
Band: Kodiak Galaxy
How would you personally describe shoegaze music? The DIY ethos of punk music but for more mellow people. It's actually a very broad genre, from spacey wall of sound to energetic noise and jangly indie in between.
How did you first discover shoegaze and what drew you in enough to actually perform it? Hearing it as a teenager and having it resonate with the type of person I was - and still am. It's about creating music that moves you and is intense - without being aggressive or angry - and you can lose yourself in.

What seminal album would you offer someone who knew nothing about shoegaze as an introduction and why? Probably Slowdive's Just For A Day or Souvlaki Space Station. I think they embody a lot of what shoegaze is about; big, lush walls of sound that you can really get lost in.
How's the camaraderie and size of the shoegaze scene in Melbourne? The Melbourne shoegaze scene is already big and getting bigger all the time. There is a lot of support from fellow bands, both new and established alike, that are making playing shows a real pleasure.
The tagline for Roogaze is "The scene that celebrates itself" - what will be the biggest cause for celebration on the night? To get to see such an amazing array of bands both new and established, that you normally wouldn't get to see in one sitting. Shoegaze is actually a very broad genre, so there is something for everyone.
What time are you playing the festival? Kodiak Galaxy are on at 9:50pm.
