One year after the shooting of Michael Brown it's important to remember that #BlackLivesMatter is more than just a hashtag..

On August 9, 2014 an unarmed African-American teenager by the name of Michael Brown was shot six times by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri. Today marks just over a year since the anniversary of his death and the major protests and riots that occurred because of this and similar shootings like the murder of Trayvon Martin. Tensions are still high in Ferguson with fresh protests emerging to mark the year since his death. A lot has been said by those who condone the shooting and those who believe the officer was in the right. There are enough opinion pieces on what happened and why it was wrong so to the mark the one year anniversary sometimes it can be a lot more powerful to simplify things, such as this crucial piece originally featured on AJ+ and created by Shirin-Banou Barghi:
