Pub Grub: Shady Palms Cafe

26 November 2014 | 11:43 am | Evan Young

Shady Palms is the ultimate Queensland style pub. With three separate areas and two bars, there is ample space to find yourself a niche this summer.

BAR SIDE

Shady Palms is the ultimate Queensland style pub. With three separate areas and two bars, there is ample space to find yourself a niche this summer.

The front bar is cool with dark lighting, air conditioning (a life-saver on those scorning days) and a breeze that eases through the room, while the back bar has wide open windows, plenty of planter boxes and four cold beer taps; perfect for escaping the summer heat. The front bar, beer garden and adjacent laneway also have constantly evolving and changing street and local art galleries.

Offering a pan-American menu with a focus on the fresh style of California as well as the border regions of the Americas, Shady’s empanadas, ceviches, tacos, superfood salads, sliders and burgers really hit the spot. Furthermore, food prices range from $4.50 to $20 – something that ensures that there is something affordable for everyone to enjoy. In terms of drinks, most bases are covered, with cocktails (hello, lime Moscow Mules), jugs (Pimm’s and fruit, oh yes), craft beer, boutique cider, coffee, as well as milkshakes and fresh juices always going down a treat. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Shady Palms is your friendly neighbourhood pub, and always manages to maintain its relaxed, entertaining vibe.

FUN FACT

Owned by My Kitchen Rules’ 2011 Queensland contestants Mal and Bec, Shady Palms is the duo’s second establishment after the resounding success of Greenslopes’ Lady Marmalade. They’ve also recently opened the Milk Factory Cafe.
