Pub Grub: Alto Cucina and Bar

26 November 2014 | 11:54 am | Sarah Barratt

Alto Cucina gives patrons the choice of wooden booths or tables in a shaded outdoor setting surrounded by palms.

BAR SIDE

Alto Cucina gives patrons the choice of wooden booths or tables in a shaded outdoor setting surrounded by palms, ideal for balmy summer evenings.

The crowd is usually locals, business professionals and the odd tourist. The menu reflects Mediterranean leanings, with gourmet pizzas, tapas, sharing plates or an impressive amount of seafood and salads: grilled scallops, drunken chilli prawns or the whole baked baby barramundi. There are more substantial meat options with the 500g rib eye on the bone or 1kg BBQ chilli plum beef ribs.

On tap to drink there is Little Ripper, Peroni, Byron Bay Pale Lager, Asahi and Rekorderlig just to name some. Wines from South and Western Australia dominate; Yalumba, Langmeil, Wirra Wirra and Running With Bulls are on offer as well as some Italian names. You can purchase by the bottle, glass or even ask for a taste size. There’s also an extensive list of 23 cocktails.

FUN FACT

Cucina means kitchen in Italian, and Alto is an acronym for ‘A little taste of’; thus, ‘A little taste of kitchen and bar’ is their motto. The tasting plates and tasting sizes of selected beers and wines attests to the name and philosophy, which encourages customers to try a little of everything.

Channel 7 has also filmed a scene in here for one of their shows, Bringing Sexy Back!
