Preview Todd Terje's new single with an epic remix by Four Tet

In what’s to be his first single in two years, Todd Terje’s Jungelknugen (a nod to a dyslexic, Swedish king) is probably a good track. I mean, we haven’t really heard it yet as it’s still to be released, but by comparing the single’s pre-release remixes by Four Tet and Prins Thomas, we manage to get a real teaser of what the Inspector Norse producer has been up to since 2015. There’s a spiralling synth line present in both, plus sharp hits of piano and an irresistible groove, which pulses throughout both the house-leaning remixes. It hints at the single’s upbeat and catchy nature, something unexpected from Terje, which is sure to be one of the genre’s best when it drops sometime in the near-future.  

In the meantime however, Four Tet’s Jungelknugen remix is an epic and sprawling piece of art, rolling between sounds and tones across its eight-minute duration. Unlike many of the English musician’s remixes, this one is relatively smooth and efficient, avoiding his jumbled and complicated club-ready sound for one more focusing on keeping things streamlined and modest. It’s not simplistic in any way – at any given point there is at least half a dozen layers of synth and percussion – but it has a far more controlled style to it which I think a lot of people will really appreciate, especially those who have been struggling to get into the esteemed, and often spoken-about artist.
