Surfcoast-based artist readies his latest single of uplifting, feelgood highlife influenced vibes.
Back with the next single from his forthcoming album LO-LIFE! is Immy Owusu with the sounds of The World Is Here For You, out June 15 but premiering on Pilerats today!
A cut of aural sunshine, The World Is Here For You sees Owusu channel the greats of the 70s Ghanian scene, putting his own spin on the highlife genre featuring a hypnotic choral section sung in the Twi language, Immy’s father’s native tongue.
Spreading a positive message of personal empowerment and embracing the opportunities afforded to us, Immy speaks on his new single saying “I was never properly taught Twi as a kid so I've been writing songs to learn the language more fluently. Language can be the biggest barrier between you and your family's culture if you don’t master it at a young age. As most of my Ghanaian family are musicians themselves it’s been so great connecting with them in this way I never have before, both musically and culturally.

I grew up playing a lot of rock and metal so it’s pretty refreshing for them to like the music I’m making, and even help me write it. One of my aunties who’s a gospel singer loves this song because the words sound like gospel music. I realised there was unintentionally a spiritual undercurrent behind my whole album, which I now realise is hard to ignore when exploring highlife music.”
