I Could Murder A Burger

24 November 2016 | 4:10 pm | Staff Writer

Picture it: a beautifully set table complete crisp white table cloth, gleaming silver cutlery, an attentive waiter to do that weird decrumbing thing after a basket of artisanal breads, plate after dainty plate of exquisitely crafted haute cuisine, prepared with incredible skill and microscopic attention to detail. What could be better than fine dining at a top class, swanky-pants restaurant? A massive, juicy, grab-it-with-both-hands-and-get-it-in-ya-face burger, that's what. When that glorious marriage of bread, meat, salad and condiments is just right, nothing beats it. Here are some of the best to sink your teeth into in Sydney.

Chur Burger
Albion St, Surry Hills

Chur Burger burnt down a few years back, but from the ashes they rose again, glorious, greasy and triumphant. Watching someone try to wrap their mouth around their absolutely stacked double grilled beef, double bacon, double cheese, tomato jam, BBQ sauce and mayo burger is one of the best shows in town. Wash it down with one of their creamy milkshakes: we highly recommend the milo or salted caramel, which you can even get with a shot of giddyup. Somewhere out there Vince Vega just shed a tear.

Parlour Burger
George St, CBD

These days burgers come in all shapes, sizes, and even colours. Black burgers gained some notoriety a while back when Japanese Burger Kings (that's Hungry Jacks to you and me) started slinging Whoppers in buns darkened with bamboo charcoal. If you're looking to give the striking patty holsters a go but the King's fare just doesn't cut it, Palour Burger's Black Widow is a must. Ground beef, chipotle mayo and jalapeno chilli on a charcoal bun? Hell yes, welcome to the dark side.

Soul Burger
Perouse, St Randwick & Glebe Point Rd, Glebe

The Soul Burger team are looking to change people's perceptions about food by launching "blitzkrieg on big agriculture". All of their 'beef' burgers are made from vegan-friendly plant-based substitutes and the results aren't just healthier, they're flipping delicious. Take your pick at SB, there are no wrong choices, but if you feel like a challenge grab the Sumo Burger - plant-based beef and spicy sausage, field mushroom, cheese, roasted peppers, tomato, tomato relish and herbed mayo.
