Melaleuca & More Share Must-See Brisbane Acts Ahead Of 'Live at The Outpost'

Brick Lane Brewing Co. is shaking up the Brisbane music scene with 'Live at The Outpost', four fun-filled nights in January showcasing the best up-and-coming acts. To celebrate the occasion, we had a chat with some of the bands on the line-up to discover the magic that exists in the local scene.

What is your favourite part about the Brisbane live music scene?

The Steele Syndicate: I love the comradery between bands. Seems like each band has a friend in it and is only one degree of separation from your own. It’s small but supportive, with lots of opportunities for original music. And the valley has so many venues in close proximity! It is very unique.

Melaleuca: Brisbane has such a great live music community. There are so many good bands that cover diverse styles, with so many good venues within walking distance of each other! Brisbane shows are easily the most fun to play!

CityPiss: My favourite part of the Brisbane scene is when the bands say I love you so much and the fans say thank you, we love you too and then the amps are turned up so loud, and then you lick your lips, and you’re like yum yum I love Brisbane. It's also really cool to see so much country coming through a lot of the sounds. Brisbane is good.

What act would be your dream artist to open for?

The Steele Syndicate: The Cat Empire. We got horns, they got horns, and they were hugely influential in inspiring our tunes. I think a South American tour supporting them would be an ultimate dream.

Melaleuca: Jane: Paramore, Isaac: Blink 182, Matt: Tigers Jaw, Andy: Catherine Wheel Reunion shows.

CityPiss: We would love to open for Ween, Kurt Vile, Citypiss, Ed Sheehan, the actor from Magnum P.I. and James Blunt.

Do you have any pre-show/post-show rituals?

The Steele Syndicate: Nowadays, we do a group fitness session to amp up the energy, and we always do a chant right before getting on stage, making sure the energy is high.

Melaleuca: Usually, getting dinner somewhere in The Valley is a standard. If there is a pool table at the venue, I can guarantee we will be all over it for the Melaleuca Pool Shark Tournament.

CityPiss: Our pre-show ritual is to argue about what we think the show should look like and then get annoyed that we don't listen to each other's ideas, then do our own thing and end up looking like we sneezed in a costume shop and bought one of everything. Our post-show routine is forgetting why we ever argued at all.

What is a local act that everybody has got to go and see live?

The Steele Syndicate: Tyde! They are amazing! And they're supporting us at our Outpost gig. Two birds, one stone. Be there!

Melaleuca: Hard to just pick one, but I feel that at the moment, Dog God should be on everyone’s radar. Very new band but have thoroughly enjoyed them every time we have seen them play. Thankfully, they are playing our show at the outpost on Saturday, so it’s a perfect opportunity to check them out!

CityPiss: Radium Dolls, big energy and they are a really great band.

What is a live music goal for you this year?

The Steele Syndicate: Learn to salsa. We may or may not have a segment in our set that calls for such a dance. I try at the moment,  but definitely want to improve my moves to add to the live experience.

Melaleuca: We would love to do a lot of touring around Australia if we can. In 2021 we were able to play the Tivoli which was an unreal experience, and it would be great to play there again. Maybe if we are lucky, we might get to play at Fortitude Music Hall.

CityPiss: To have a live exorcism performed on stage.
