In this day and age, sample-based beat making is all the rage. A young man out of New Jersey, USA riding this wave of popularity is Flamingosis (Aaron Velasquez). Interestingly enough, inspiration for the producer’s peculiar pseudonym stems from his father. As a kid Aaron idolised his old man, who was a five-time world Frisbee champion. The ‘Flamingosis’ was his father’s signature move, a special mid-air spinning arrangement that supposedly turned the sport on its head.
Once a rising beat box sensation, Aaron soon discovered launch pads and production software and from there it was all guns blazing. As an unsigned artist, Aaron’s amassed some 33,000 followers on SoundCloud and released over 60 originals. They're all deliciously smooth beats. Trust me. Check his extensive library of work HERE. With a fascination for soulful sounds from times past, Flamingosis tracks are a reminder of disco/soul dance floors from the 70s and 80s.
Yesterday, the Internet copped a newbie, appropriately titled Finesse (Hey Baby) - two-and-half minutes of solid groove that is dominated by, you guessed it, an emotional female sample. She seems to be asking for forgiveness and confessing an undying love for ‘her baby’. A bed of looped guitar chords and bass melody combine to form a funky and ultimately relaxing atmosphere.
