Have You Heard: Beach Baby

When did you start making music and why?
Because it’s fun. There are few better feelings than playing a really good gig, or finishing a song that you’re all really pleased with. Beach Baby began two years ago, in a series of rehearsal rooms and bedrooms. We’d all been playing for a few years beforehand in different bands, but things stepped up a gear when we all met. It took a year and a half of rehearsing and writing before we felt ready to release our first single in March this year.

Sum up your musical sound in four words?
Pumping, roof-down dream magic.

If you could support any band in the world — past or present — who would it be?
Present- Kurt Vile/Parquet Courts
Past - Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band

If you could only listen to one album forevermore, what would it be and why?
Tender Prey by Nick Cave, because it creates a feeling of urgency to go out there or inside and do what you have to do and live even if there is a thunderstorm outside or inside. Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds mate, you don't need much more do you?

Greatest rock'n'roll moment of your career to date?
Hercules ended an early gig in Birmingham with an impromptu feedback extravaganza. It was just him on stage, frantically scraping the neck of his bass against his amp. The amp still bears the scars. The less rock’n’roll moment was when he realised he’d screwed his bass and had to stump up to get it repaired…

Why should people come and see your band?
Because we like playing live – and we put on a good show. We’re a live band for sure…

When and where for your next gig?
We’re writing until the end of the year now – but will next appear at The Old Blue Last in London, for a DIY headline show on 19 January.
