Position: Founder of The Planetary Group
When and where are you speaking? Face The Music, 14 Nov at 11.25am.
What’s your area of expertise and what experience do you have? I have been doing music promotion since the early ‘90s and started Planetary in 1996. Our staff is 11 strong and we cover all of North America doing college and specialist radio promotion. We also go after the blogs. We present stages at CMJ, NXNE, SXSW and Culture Collide.
What topics will you be talking about at Face The Music? Will be talking about showcase festivals that are out there in the world. Sounds Australia is providing great opportunities for acts to showcase. I would like to talk about how acts should prepare to do it the right way when coming to the USA, since so many do it wrong.
What do you hope to learn from Face The Music? Well, you never stop learning in this business. So, who knows what I will learn, but I am sure I will pick something up at one of the panels! Mostly I hope to learn about some great new artists that Melbourne has to offer.
What are you most looking forward to at Face The Music? I think Australia has an amazing and diverse music scene. I am really looking forward to meeting as many locals that are involved in the local business and seeing as many great acts as I possibly can. I am here to find new acts to work with in America.
What’s one question about the music industry you’d love to have the answer to? Why are Australian acts still signing worldwide deals?
Face The Music takes place at Melbourne's Art Centre Friday 14 and Saturday 15 November. Tickets will be available at the door. More info here.
