More He Danced Ivy More He Danced Ivy

Up-and-coming Brisbane prog-punk maniacs He Danced Ivy are getting ready for the release of their eagerly awaited debut full-length, The Verbal Kind, at the end of the week, and theMusic.com.au is stoked to have been granted the premiere privileges of the sensational new album.

Opening with the off-kilter, growing cacophony of You Can't Trust A Barber — think The Dear Hunter filtered through the lens of The Ugly Organ-era Cursive — the record soon opens up to the breakneck acrobatics of its lead single and title track, underpinned as it is by meaty, rolling bass and driven, snappy drum lines. Cascading guitar lines richochet over, under and around chunky riffs, soaring vocals, snarling breakdowns and unpredictable switch-ups, hallmarks that continue to make themselves a point of focus throughout the album's 10 tracks of unrelentingly imaginative, exploratory explosiveness.

With the band citing broad influences including Twelve Foot ninja, Karnivool, At The Drive-in, Soundgarden and Violent Soho, the wider LP is a remarkably realised vision. Recorded at The Sonic Factory, Scratch & Bite Studios and Rancho Relaxo Inc, the album drew on the production and engineering talents of Nathaniel Sherwood, with mixing and mastering by Forrester Savell.

The Verbal Kind will be available from this Thursday, 27 October, via He Danced Ivy's Bandcamp page.

The band will also be launching their new work at home this week with a show at Crowbar on Thursday. They'll be joined by fellow eclectic shredders Red In Tooth and Mofoisdead, which should all pile up to create a veritable powerfuck of face-meltin' freakishness for all and sundry.

The band will also be popping up this weekend at Coffs Harbour's Banana Field Music Festival, at which they'll appear alongside the likes of Illy, British India, LDRU, Art Vs Science, The Delta Riggs, Hockey Dad, Phil Jamieson and more.. For more information, see Banana Field's website.
