Album title? The Migration

Where did the title of your new album come from? The Migration as an album is about the movement of ideas between people, across borders and cultures and throughout lifespans. It is about the complexity of engagement and the beauty in diversity.

How many releases do you have now? Three. The Muse (2007), The Gathering (2009), The Migration (2016)

How long did it take to write/record? The Migration took four years to compose and then a further two years to orchestrate, rehearse and record. In actual time spent directly working on it, I'd say four to six months.

Was anything in particular inspiring you during the making? My two kids were born during the composition and making of the record. It may sound cliched but this family gang of mine is a constant inspiration. Staying creative at this time is a priority!

What's your favourite song on it? The record is written to be played as one continuous piece of music. It's really just one song.

Will you do anything differently next time? Everything!

When and where is your launch/next gig? We are doing a national tour in June: 10 Jun, Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Merlyn Theatre, Malthouse Theatre
