Five minutes with comedian Dane Hiser.
Name and role? Dane Hiser – Comedian.
Plug your show? I don't want to blow my own horn, but it's about to be blown…ladies. Settle Down is an unmissable guide to how to learn from my experiences and be as awesome as I am. If you miss it, you will sadly grow up to be less of a person. You wouldn't go against the word of people like Mikey Robins, Fiona O'Loughlin and Dave Jory, would you?
Where did the idea for your show come from? I've been treading the boards of the Sydney scene for three years with short sets giving insight into my life, which is rich with comedy fodder. But I wanted the opportunity to take a bit more time to go into detail and tell stories that paint more of a picture. I don't want to use the word 'journey', so I will call it an 'escapade'.
What have the past few months or so been like in the lead-up to Fringe? Exciting. I could use other words but you have to admit, that is a pretty good one.
What inspires you artistically? Chaos. As my life is full of glorious mishaps and flaws, I feel that the more things gone wrong, the more material it creates. If my life ever becomes stable and normal, I will need to stop doing comedy, but there's no danger of that. “Good news”, I hear you say?
What the most cringe-worthy thing you've seen on stage? Too many to count, but certainly not any of my sets. I'm awesome.
What other shows are you looking forward to at this year's Fringe? Oh there will be heaps of exciting debut comedy show's this year. To name a few: joint shows from Seaton Kay Smith & Jazz Twemlow, Andrew Barnett & Dave Keeshan, as well as Mat Wakefield & Alice Fraser and the triple bill Andrew Wolfe, Cameron James & Marty Bright.
What excites you about being involved in the Sydney Fringe 2012? Above all, the free shows. We get a festival pass don't we? Hello? You still there? Hello?
