Chief Operating Officer of Collarts, Ian Harvey, chats about music education and available courses.

What is the name of course?
Collarts offers three two-year degree courses in Music Performance, Audio Production and Creative Industries Management.

What can we expect to learn from this course?
Students learn the skills that are required to work in the music, entertainment and creative industries. Our aim is to have students 'industry ready' by the time they graduate. The creative industries offer many employment opportunities as well as being a great lifestyle, but like all industries there is a need for skills and experience. Collarts provides students with both.

Is there a practical component to the course?
All Collarts courses are practically based. Each week students are actively involved in in applying the knowledge and skills they have learned. The courses include a practical project each trimester and the courses include a 12-week industry placement according to student interest prior to graduation.

What kinds of jobs have previous graduates of this course gone on to do?
Creative industries management students can expect to move into a career in artist, event or venue management following completion of our courses. Other employment options include publishing, arts management, royalty and music licensing management. Audio graduates can expect to move onto a careers in live or recorded sound in the entertainment, broadcast or production sectors.
