28 August 2012 | 12:31 pm | Staff Writer

Five minutes with BIGSOUND 2012 performer, Awaken I Am.

Member/role:
Ashley Jackson – guitar.

Hometown:
Gold Coast.

Short description of your band and your music:
We are a progressive pop rock band. We like big riffs, loud drums, high vocals and big hooks. We are often compared to bands like Saosin, Dead Letter Circus, Closure In Moscow, Sleeping With Sirens and Hands Like Houses. We have shared the stage with some awesome bands like As Tall As Lions, Dream On Dreamer, Tonight Alive, Rufio, Lydia, Closure In Moscow and had the chance to play Push Over 2012.

What are you hoping to achieve from showcasing at BIGSOUND?
We are aiming to put on a great show and turn heads! We feel very privileged to be chosen to showcase at this year's BIGSOUND Live and just being given the opportunity to chat to industry professionals and the other bands on the lineup is amazing. We are hoping to meet some new fans and industry people so we can hopefully learn more about the ever-changing industry. We recently had our booking agent depart into a different aspect of the industry, so we are hoping to find a new one at the conference. We are also scheduled to record a brand new full length at the beginning of next year, so we will definitely have our eyes open for any interested record label/publishing/distribution professionals!

Why should people come and see you from amongst the myriad bands at BIGSOUND?
We are definitely a different style of band on this year's bill. We have a massive live show with lots of energy and crowd interaction as well as some production. We are hoping to turn a few heads at this show, so we will be going all out! Our live show is turned up to maximum energy, just like our music, so if you want to jump, move, groove, dance, head bang or just stare, we are definitely the band to see.
