The Transplants are an American punk rock/rap rock supergroup. They formed in 1999 when Tim Armstrong (of the bands Rancid and Operation Ivy) played his friend and roadie Rob Aston some beats he had made using Pro Tools and asked Aston if he would consider contributing lyrics. Initially, Armstrong played all the instruments himself, but as the project grew, he invited musician friends such as Matt Freeman (Operation Ivy, Rancid), Lars Frederiksen (Rancid), and Vic Ruggiero (The Slackers) to add to the sound. Before long, Armstrong and Aston decided to officially form a band, but to make things complete, they wanted a drummer, so Travis Barker from Blink-182 was asked to join in 2002.

While this is a decent album, with a line-up of this calibre, the music produced is below par. The fact is, if it weren’t for the status of Transplants’ members, no one would really care about these songs.
"I’ll catch myself looking over my shoulder because, like when we’re playing live I’ll just stop and trip out with what Travis is playing because fuck, I’m in a band with Travis Barker and Tim Armstrong – they’re pretty fucking good at what they do."
Thankfully ending on a pearler, Exit The Wasteland is a reminder that when this band is on point, they kick dick.
We’re streaming In A Warzone all week, though Skinhead Rob says there are no plans to come to Australia.
For all its rule breaking and genre stretching, In A Warzone works best when Transplants stay within their comfort zone, delivering punk rock at its most unpretentious and uncomplicated.
“Most of The Transplants met out at The Austin Hospital at the liver clinic out there. We were all so grateful to be alive; seriously, that we just thought, ‘Let’s get a band together to promote organ donation."
