Animal Collective is an American experimental pop band formed in Baltimore, Maryland. Its members consist of Avey Tare (David Portner), Panda Bear (Noah Lennox), Geologist (Brian Weitz), and Deakin (Josh Dibb). The band's work is characterized by an eclectic exploration of styles, including psychedelia, freak folk, noise, and electronica, with the use of elements such as loops, drones, sampling, vocal harmonies, and sound collage. AllMusic's Fred Thomas suggests that the group "defined the face of independent experimental rock during the 2000s and 2010s."The band members met in school and started recording together in various forms of collaboration from a young age. In 1999, they established the record label Paw Tracks, issuing what is now considered their debut album, Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished (2000), as well as work by other artists. The band's 2007 album Strawberry Jam was their first to chart on the Billboard 200. Their 2009 follow-up Merriweather Post Pavilion was the band's most commercially successful album, reaching #13 on the US chart; its reverb-heavy psychedelic pop sound proved highly influential to independent music of the subsequent decade.Records released under the name "Animal Collective" may include contributions from any or all of its members. Evolving from early collaborations between Lennox and Portner, the collective was not officially established until all four members came together for the album currently titled Ark, which was originally titled Here Comes the Indian (2003). Most prior collaborations between the band members were then retroactively classified under Animal Collective's discography. In the case of Dibb, who often takes breaks from recording and performing with the band, his time off does not constitute full leave.

The US musician and Animal Collective co-founder releases his sixth album, Buoys, today..
"Overall the album has the feel of a commissioned piece that the band's hearts were only ever half into."
"You have to justify why you're spending your time doing this when you're not making any money and no one else cares."
"Their gaze may be focused on several million years BC but there's an evolution of sorts going on."
A zany new single from Animal Collective..
The first album you should definitely listen to this year.. One of my cultural resolutions heading into the New Year was to listen to more albums start to finish, instead of just zoning in on hyped tracks and thrashing them. First cab off the rank is Panda Bear’s Panda Bear Meets The Grim Reaper, and as I come to closing bars of the final track, I couldn’t have asked for a better album to confirm this was the right resolution to make. Interesting enough, nobody heard it first as a cohesive whole: in a cool marketing move, the album was premiered track-by-track on radio stations across the globe (including Sydney’s FBi). The fifth album from Noah Lennox, the co-founder of one of the most influential alternative pop-rock acts of the 21st century, Animal Collective, was has given us a pretty damn strong album showcase in Grim Reaper, going all over the place with his beatmaking (in a good way): thematically sitting between the drippy-hippy warmth of 2007’s Person Pitch and the darker, mor
Animal Collective's re-work of Shabazz Palaces' #CAKE is a sprawling ambient bass-trip.. Animal Collective have hopped on board to remix Shabazz Palaces' #CAKE or as they've phrased it a 'premature deflirt mix' and for once that terminology actually fits the restructuring of the song. Animal Collective's touches have unravelled the density and instead of 'flirting' with the track like artists may Animal Collective have added their own ambient, almost hallucogenic twist. At first we're presented with this highly electronic landscape, full of distortions and beeps before the vocals of Animal Collective form into a call and recieve. Then some clever editing of the original sampling provides a sonic springboard into a sprawling bass-driven merging of Animal Collective with Shabazz Palaces. Panda Bear Shares New Video for 'Mr Noah'; Announces New Album. Panda Bear, the solo project of Noah London from Animal Collective, has released a video for a track called Mr Noah. It’s directed by French collective AB/CD/CD, known for their work developing the visual identity of French label Colette, and for videos for Uffie, Lily Allen, and Kitsuné Records. Earlier this year, they signed with Partizan, best known for producing Michel Gondry. Don’t watch Mr Noah if you get motionsick easily; it’s a super dizzying couple of minutes as the camera sways side to side and trails behind some kind of mechanic in blue workwear, following him going up stairs in an obsessive repeat loop, actually it reminded me a bit of Gondry’s clip for Kylie's Come Into My World. Panda Bear is gearing up to release a new full-length solo album entitled, Panda Bear Meets The Grim Reaper, his first since 2011’s Tomboy. Mr Noah, however, is part of a pre-album release EP, containing three non-album B-sides: ove
