'There is nothing at the top of the ladder, except another ladder.'

Melbourne rockers The Ugly Kings have come out swinging with a spicy video for their down and dirty track Promised Land, premiering today on theMusic.com.au.

The film clip simmers in its cinematic splendour; shots of stunning, untouched landscapes juxtapose a narrative concerning the corruption of organised religion, a theme that is reflected in the tune itself.

"Promised Land is about the false promises that are preached to us by the charlatans of our society (politicians, big business, etc...). It's about the pipe dream they sell us to keep us in servitude to the 1%, to keep us slaves to the dollar and material things," the band said.

"There is nothing at the top of the ladder, except another ladder. The Promised Land isn't the destination we get sold, it's inside of us."

The song is taken from the band’s upcoming debut album Darkness Is My Home which is due to drop 13 April.
