More The Bennies More The Bennies

Raucous Melbourne punk pushers The Bennies were given their chance at triple j’s Like A Version spot this morning, and they’ve fone a pretty fucking good job.

Taking on TISM’s protest anthem (He’ll Never Be An) Ol’ Man River – aka I’m On The Drug That Killed River Phoenix – and with The Smith Street Band beanies covering their face, it was almost Eurovision worthy.

Towards the end, they drop into a dubbed-up take on another TISM classic Greg The Stop Sign.

Note too the subtle lyric change, whereas the original foretold a drug-related death for Michael Jackson, The Bennies foresee a similar end for Justin Beiber.
