Ascendant West Australian hip-hop luminary Mathas has unveiled the film clip for his recently released single Stone Cold Sober (featuring Empty), and theMusic.com.au is proud to be able to present to you this premiere airing today.

The track follows on from lauded earlier effort Nourishment (featuring Abbe May), as well as a guest spot on Birds Of Tokyo's Like A Version rendition of Kendrick Lamar's Swimming Pools (Drank), and marks another step towards the imminent release of Mathas' forthcoming studio full-length Armwrestling Atlas.

Stone Cold Sober is a deeply personal track, its seeds laid in a moment of reflection, or maybe even epiphany, on the Hawkesbury River, in NSW, following a friend's death. Drawing on the string section of an instrumental piece created by Empty, aka Brian Kruger, for 2013 release E M P T Y B A R S Volume 2, Mathas got to work on crafting the song in a dinky trailer in Broome, eventually coming out the other side with the album-ready, poignant cut.

He now stands to capitalise on a massive past couple of years — 2013 saw him pick up acclaim everywhere from triple j to the WAM Awards — as he embarks on a tour in support of Stone Cold Sober, as a special guest to Joelistics on his Blue Volume tour.

That all gets under way from Friday, October 17, at Newtown Social Club, in Sydney; Mathas will perform eight shows as part of the near-month-long jaunt.
