The Love Junkies - Television

The Perth band keep setting the standard for doing so, so much with so, so little

Fresh on the heels of having announced the September 5 release of their forthcoming second record Blowing On The Devil's Trumpet (and complementary tour) less than a month ago, Perth-bred rock prodigies The Love Junkies have unveiled the new clip for their explosive recent single, Television.

The vid was shot on a shoestring budget on the power of iPhones and a six-pack, with the end result conveying a trippy, claustrophobic atmosphere, while skewiff angles and lighting converge with flashes of vibrant colour and the track's underlying drive to create a hypnotic, unsettling accompaniment to the assured slice of Oz-bred rough rock. The clip was shot amid the certainly creepy, purportedly haunted confines of Mt Lawley's Astor Theatre, giving the whole experience an overarching sense of impending terror. It's kind of great.

We say the song itself is "assured" because there's no denying the ascendant, dominant trajectory on which The Love Junkies now sit, having completed four previous national runs of the country as well as stepping out overseas for the first time, in Singapore and Vietnam, and signing with German label Siiick Records in a European-release deal. None too shabby for a band who got the ball rolling in pretty humble style with their standout self-produced EP, Flight Test.

The Love Junkies will kick off their extensive tour, proudly presented by The Music, in support of Blowing On The Devil's Strumpet at home, at the Rosemount Hotel, on September 6. See the Gig Guide or check The Music App for a full rundown of venues, dates and ticketing details.
